Levels
New Beginners - Basic technique and dance skills, veil and choreography. Performance opportunities are available at Christmas and the summer but if fun and fitness is more your thing, that's fine too.
Experienced beginners/Improvers - If you have the basics and want to take the next step, this class is for you. We continually revise the basics and add layering, combinations, props and free dance. Choreographies are taught throughout the year with performances at Christmas and in the summer.
Intermediate/Advanced - Classes have a strong choreographic base and include advanced technique, props, solo work and free dance. Performance opportunites are available throughout the year.
What to wear?
Gym-style clothes - leggings, comfortable top. You can bring a scarf for your hips but we also have belts you can borrow. You can dance in bare feet or soft soled shoes (trainers are not suitable as they are designed to grip the floor).
Age?
Class members range from teenagers to ladies in their seventies. I am insured for all ages but would prefer it if under-14s were accompanied by an adult.
Fitness/health issues?
The classes are fairly energetic and I expect people to have a certain level of fitness, but feel free to dance at your own pace. If you have any ongoing health problems or are pregnant, please let me know. It is also a good idea to bring a drink with you.
Size issues?
Thin, plump, short or tall. Anyone can bellydance. Different body types obviously affect the way you dance and not all movements look good on all shapes, but there is something for everyone, so please don't feel self conscious!
